Poetry Month – April 18

“Wait” is a strange prompt to pull when you’ve missed your regular quiet window to write.

WAIT

Hurry up
Slow down
Hold on
Wait is one link in the long chain of time
Sometimes pulled tight
Sometimes held slack
Race, wobble, stumble, stroll
Different tempos
inevitably
falling out of step with each other
I wait
You wait
We wait
We all wait
For each other
Because, really,
We don’t want to be
Too early
Too late
Too Left behind
Too Left
Alone
hurry up
slow down
hold on
Wait
Wait
