Whole Lot of Writing Going On…

Writing conferences, that is…

First up, Jeannette Larson will be at Book People this Saturday, March 5 @ 11am to give a talk about Loving the Librarian. Larson, a former librarian, imparts the secrets of this essential but often overlooked member of our community. Afterwards, she will be available to sign copies of her newly released book called Hummingbirds: Facts and Folklore From the Americas. Can’t wait

Lest you think the behemoth that is SXSW is not for writers, you would be wrong. Writers League of Texas (WLT) is teaming up with Kirkus Reviews to bring PubCamp on Friday March 11. Oh and it’s free.

On April 2, Kirsten Cappy of Curious City is coming to Austin to share her wisdom about creating an individual marketing plan based on your unique content. This workshop is present by WLT. Cappy is also doing one on one sessions with five picture book writers on how to market the picture book. Wow.

On Saturday April 9, Houston SCBWI will present their annual conference featuring a lot of big deal agents and editors. Very worthwhile.

Next, librarians from all over Texas will converge in Austin from April 12-15 at the Austin Convention Center for the annual TLA conference. This is an amazing event filled with books, authors and librarians. Is there anything better?

Right after the TLA conference on April 15 & 16, the WLT will present the A the Z YA Conference. Two of my advisors from Vermont College Tim Wynne-Jones and Uma Krishnaswami will be presenters at the conference. Don’t miss it.

And finally (for now), the nice folks at Children’s Book Insider are offering a children’s author bootcamp on April 30-May 1 in Austin.

Geez, that’s a lot, folks. See you around.
